Convention Update: May 28, 2017

Dear Cincinnati2018 Convention-Goers,

Your convention organizing elves continue to scurry about, foraging for new ideas and amusements for your enjoyment during the July 2018 convention here in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Convention registration and pre-convention trip fees will be announced shortly, so keep your eye out for them.

Here’s a little pre-convention information for those of you wise enough to arrive by the evening of July 8, 2018. There are three (3) days of pre-convention activity on Mon, Tues, and Wed July 9-11, and here are some useful tidbits about the Mon and Wed events:

Brewery Tour: Monday, July 9, 2018 – Get ready to sample over 14 locally made craft beers as we invite you to enjoy some of what made Cincinnati famous! Ride the private Brew Bus from the hotel and back again for a guided four-hour (~1-5 PM) tour of 4 craft breweries: Taft’s Ale House, Braxton Brewing, Rhingeist, and the Christian Moerlein Taproom. Included in the tour (besides the beer of course!) will be bottled water and gourmet pretzels. IMPORTANT NOTE: This tour requires a minimum of 20 and has room for a maximum of 45 people, so be sure to get your reservations in early for this one!

Newport Solarium Aquarium Tour: Wednesday, July 11, 2018
- Our private bus will pick you up at the convention hotel and take you to the Newport Solarium Aquarium, across the mighty Ohio River, to lovely Newport, Kentucky. Tour the Newport Aquarium (ticket included with your fee) which has – among many other exhibits – rare shark rays, a Shark Wall and bridge, Gator Alley, Stingray Hideaway, Penguin Palooza, and much, much more.

After you have completed the Aquarium tour, stay in the area to explore Newport on the Levee. It boasts a bookstore, candy shop, and other unique businesses. Remain there for lunch (on your own) at one of the fine restaurants featuring Mitchell’s Fish Market, Five Guys, a local favorite Dewey’s Pizza, Tom + Chee, and many more.

The dazzling view of the Cincinnati skyline is on display especially if you take the river walk.

The bus will depart the hotel around 9:45am and will return around 1:45 pm. However, don’t feel constrained by this short 4-hour window of time; if you wish to stay longer or leave earlier, there is a TANK (Transport Authority of Northern Kentucky) bus that can take you back for $1 or if you’re really feeling it, you can walk back to the hotel via the Purple People pedestrian bridge (approx. 2 miles).

Remember to save the entire week of July 9-15 (or more) because, as Charley Chase said, we’re “throwing a convention for you”!

Kind regards,
